RTK Correction for Centimeter Precision
Most autonomous tractors use Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS, which combines satellite signals with data from local base stations to correct for errors. This system delivers positioning accuracy within 1–2 centimeters, ideal for tasks like planting and fertilizing where precision is crucial. RTK corrections are transmitted in real-time, so tractors stay on track even during long operations.
Satellite-Based and Inertial Backup
When RTK signals are temporarily lost—such as in hilly terrain or near tall obstacles—some systems use advanced algorithms or backup correction methods to maintain accuracy for several minutes. Additionally, inertial navigation systems (INS) can take over during GPS outages, using motion sensors to estimate the tractor’s position and keep errors within acceptable limits.
