Inspecting tractor hoses is a quick pre-work ritual that spots leaks, cracks, or wear before they strand you mid-field or dump expensive hydraulic fluid.

Regular checks on hydraulic, fuel, and coolant hoses prevent downtime, fires, and costly repairs on your compact tractor.

Park on level ground, shut off the engine, and relieve pressure. Walk around looking for leaks, wet spots, puddles, or oily residue under the tractorCheck the full length of each hose for cracks, abrasions, bulges, kinks, soft spots, or exposed reinforcement braid—pay extra attention to the first 18 inches at each end fitting.

Wipe hoses clean, then feel for blisters, swelling, stiffness, or heat damage; gently flex hoses to detect internal damage or brittleness. Inspect fittings, clamps, and crimps for corrosion, looseness, cracks, or slippage; tighten if needed but replace anything suspect.

Tag and swap any hose with visible damage, leaks, rubbing against metal, or age beyond manufacturer specs (often 1–2 years in heavy farm use). Track hose life in a log with install dates, and keep spares for high-wear lines like loader arms or PTO circuits.

Clean mud and debris off hoses weekly to spot issues early, and route them away from hot manifolds, sharp edges, or moving parts. During winter storage, drain and inspect all hoses, as freeze-thaw cycles accelerate cracking.

Annual pressure testing adds peace of mind for critical systems.
