Tractor brake inspection is a critical safety task that ensures reliable stopping power and prevents accidents on the farm.

Begin by parking the tractor on a level surface and engaging wheel chocks to keep it steady. Check air pressure if the tractor uses an air brake system, ensuring it is within recommended levels, usually 90-100 psi. Inspect brake pads or linings for thickness, looking for excessive wear, cracks, or contamination that could affect braking performance.

Examine brake drums and discs for cracks, rust, or damage, which can impair their function. Watch for damaged, broken, or missing brake components such as the brake chamber, slack adjusters, and camshafts. Verify that brake hoses and lines are intact and free from leaks or rubbing against other parts.

Test the parking brake to confirm it holds the tractor safely when engaged. Listen carefully for any air leaks or unusual noises during brake operation.

Finally, measure the pushrod stroke to ensure it falls within manufacturer specifications, indicating proper brake adjustment. Regular brake inspections not only help maintain tractor performance but also reduce the risk of costly repairs and enhance operator safety.

Building these inspections into daily or weekly maintenance routines is a smart practice that protects both equipment and people in the demanding farming environment.
