Winter can be tough on your tractor’s hydraulic system, but proper care helps avoid costly repairs and downtime.

Cold temperatures cause hydraulic fluid to thicken, seals to harden, and hoses to become brittle, which may lead to leaks and sluggish operation.

Check hoses, fittings, and seals for wear, cracks, or leaks before and during winter. Replace damaged parts promptly to avoid failures. Switch to low-viscosity or winter-grade hydraulic oil designed to flow easily in cold conditions, ensuring smooth implement function. Use thermal wraps or line heaters to keep hydraulic fluid warm and maintain optimal viscosity for efficient operation. Remove dirt, ice, and snow buildup on hydraulic parts regularly to prevent contamination and damage. If storing the tractor, park it in a dry, sheltered spot, clean hydraulic components, and lower implements to relieve system pressure.
