How to Change Your Tractor Tire
Changing a tractor tire might seem intimidating, but with the right tools and a little know-how, you can handle this essential maintenance task yourself. Whether you’re dealing with a flat or upgrading your tires, follow these steps for a safe and efficient tire change.
1. Prepare Your Tractor
- Park on a flat, stable surface.
- Engage the parking brake and chock the opposite wheels.
- Drain liquid ballast if your tire is filled.
2. Remove the Tire
- Loosen lug nuts while the tire is still on the ground.
- Jack up the tractor until the tire is off the ground.
- Remove lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Break the Bead
- Use a bead breaker tool or a sturdy jack to separate the tire bead from the rim.
- Lubricate the bead with soapy water to make removal easier.
4. Remove the Tire from the Rim
- Use tire irons or large screwdrivers to pry the tire off the rim.
- Clean the rim with a wire brush to ensure a good seal for the new tire.
5. Install the New Tire
- Lubricate the bead and rim.
- Mount the new tire onto the rim, using tire irons as needed.
- If using a tube, insert it carefully.
6. Seat the Bead and Inflate
- Use a ratchet strap around the tire to help seat the bead if necessary.
- Inflate slowly to the recommended pressure, ensuring the bead seats evenly.
7. Reinstall the Tire
- Mount the wheel back on the tractor.
- Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern.
- Lower the tractor and recheck tightness.
