What to Buy for a Tractor Engine Rebuild

For most builds, start with a matched engine rebuild kit for your exact model and engine code. A good kit typically includes pistons and rings, sleeves or a rebore set, rod and main bearings, thrust washers, and a full gasket and seal set (head gasket, pan gasket, front and rear crank seals, and miscellaneous O-rings).

Add essential machine-work and measurement support such as plastigage or micrometers for bearing clearances, a torque wrench, ring compressor, feeler gauges, and a service manual so you can verify specs as you go. Depending on engine condition, budget for extras like new head bolts or studs, oil pump, water pump, timing set, and injectors or nozzles, because replacing these while the engine is apart is cheap insurance for long-term reliability.
