Here are some basic questions to ask before buying a tractor service plan ---
What services are covered and what isn’t? Ask for a written list of included and excluded services, such as oil changes, filters, fluid checks, diagnostic fees, and wear parts like brake pads or belts.
What is the total cost and contract length? Confirm the upfront price, payment schedule (monthly, annual), contract duration, and whether costs are fixed or may increase over time.
Is there overlap with my tractor’s manufacturer warranty? Find out if the plan duplicates existing warranty coverage and whether it starts when the warranty ends or overlaps.
Where can service be performed? Check if the plan limits you to dealer shops or allows work at certified independent repair shops. Consider how convenient the locations are for regular maintenance and repairs.
Are parts and labor both included? Ask if service covers the full cost of both parts and labor, or if there are extra charges for certain repairs.
What is the claims process? Find out how to schedule service, what paperwork is needed, and whether you must pay up front and be reimbursed or if the plan pays the shop directly.
Are there deductibles, hidden fees, or cancellation penalties? Ask about all possible fees—including service call charges, excess mileage, or early contract termination costs.
Can the plan be transferred or refunded if I sell the tractor? Knowing if the remaining coverage is transferable to a new owner can add resale value.
How are emergency or mobile repairs handled? Check if the plan includes roadside assistance, towing, on-farm service, or other extras.
What are the service interval requirements? Find out how often you are required to use the plan (mileage, hours, or calendar intervals), and what happens if you miss a scheduled service.
