As fall approaches, giving your compact tractor a thorough maintenance check is crucial for reliable operation and long-term durability.

Check out this quick guide to the most important fall maintenance tasks.

Always start by reviewing your tractor’s manual for model-specific maintenance schedules and procedures. This ensures you don’t miss critical steps unique to your machine.

Check tire pressure and look for signs of wear, cracks, or leaks. Examine the tractor body, bolts, and pins for damage or looseness, and inspect implements for wear.

Top off and inspect engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and coolant. For colder weather, ensure your coolant has the proper antifreeze concentration to prevent freezing and corrosion.

Remove debris from the radiator and screens using compressed air or a low-pressure hose. Clean or replace air filters as needed to maintain engine performance.

Lubricate all grease points, but avoid mixing different grease types to prevent chemical reactions that reduce effectiveness.

Clean battery terminals and check connections. If you expect long periods of inactivity, disconnect and store the battery in a cool, dry place.

Test brakes, safety switches, hazard lights, and ensure all protective shields are in place.

Use fresh fuel and keep the tank full to minimize condensation. For storage, add a fuel stabilizer if recommended, and avoid using old or contaminated fuel.

Store your tractor in a dry, sheltered location to protect it from harsh weather. If possible, elevate the tires to prevent flat spots, and periodically start the engine to maintain battery health.

Ensure your compact tractor is ready for fall tasks and protected against winter’s challenges, minimizing downtime and costly repairs.
